Introducing the NETCONF Protocol
NETCONF is the primary transport protocol used with YANG data models today. It is the NETwork CONFiguration protocol, and defines how a Manager and Agent will communicate in a standard fashion.
Some key details:
- Initially standardized in 2006 with RFC4741
- Latest standard is RFC6241 in 2011
- Does NOT explicitly define content. That is what YANG provides.
As a Transport Protocol, NETCONF has a layered approach that defines how the Manager (client) and Agent (server) will communicate.
Continue to dive into each of these layers from the bottom up!
